Pennsylvania Drug Recall Attorneys

Legislation sponsored by Pennsylvania Representative Eugene DePasquale in mid-2008, has made it easier for PA patients to learn about defective and potentially dangerous medical drugs that have been recalled by the FDA and other consumer protection agencies.

Commonly recalled drugs in PA include diet pills, arthritis medications, vaccines, baby formulas, and hormone regulators. Often, drugs initially approved by the FDA and other agencies are recalled later (often years down the line!) after new research comes to light that highlights dangers for certain sub classes of individuals.

For instance, the popular acne medication, Accutane, has been linked in certain patients with an array of serious side effects, such as depression, psychosis, and fetal injuries.

One of the most high profile drug recall cases over the last 10 years involved the drug cocktail fen-phen. Fen-Phen was a popular diet drug. But later research revealed that the cocktail caused heart attacks and other lethal side effects in some patients.

Another major drug recall case involved the prescription medication Vioxx, an arthritis drug which was found to be linked with maladies such as cardiac arrest, bleeding, and strokes.

Bear in mind that just because a drug has been recalled for a class of individuals doesn't necessarily mean that it's dangerous for everyone. Conversely, just because a drug has not been recalled -- or that there has not been safety data published about it -- does not mean it's necessarily safe for you. People process drugs differently; moreover, various combinations of drugs can have particular effects on individuals!

In other words, the permutations are quite involved. Talk with your pharmacist and physician and monitor your body's reactions as well as any side effects. In addition, review regularly published lists of drugs that have been banned or recalled in Pennsylvania.
