Let's go over some recent auto part recall cases that might impact PA consumers.

Tire giant Michelin recalled poorly labeled pneumatic radial tires produced between September 2006 and June 2008. The company announced that it will replace these badly labeled tires for free and also pay for balancing the tires afterwards.

The Chrysler Company--already under the gun due to its macroscopic financial problems--recently issued two serious recalls. First, the company recalled certain steering linkage parts for Dodge Van pickups. These recalled Chrysler auto parts could make the trucks more difficult to maneuver and thus increase the likelihood of crashes. Chrysler has also issued recalls for Dodge Durangos manufactured in 2005 after engineers discovered a problematic fuel tank valve. Owners can have this valve replaced by Chrysler for free.

Recalled Yamaha Motorcycle Company motorcycles include the FJR 1300 model vehicles manufactured within the past three years. These bikes have problematic switch wiring which can stall out engines. Yamaha has given orders to dealers to replace the problematic switch wiring free of charge.

It's not always the "consumer brand" auto companies that deal with recalls–sometimes "elite brand" companies must issue mea culpas as well. The Maserati Company, for instance, recently issued Gran Turismo and Alfa Romeo recalls for thousands of vehicles that demonstrated torquing problems and reduced steering capacity in certain situations.
